Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge Birding & Wildlife Viewing Updated:09/2020

This refuge is a rich mixture of bottomland hardwood forests, swamps, and cropland in the heart of the Mississippi Delta. The showy wood duck is a permanent resident nesting in the spring. Mid-summer exposes mudflats where up to 15 species of shorebirds can be seen. Various species of migratory birds stop here, including the prothonotary warbler, boblink, and American bittern. Watch out for American alligators in the swamps or sloughs. The largest deer in the Southeast are spotted best in fall. View wildlife primarily from roads. Hiking is welcomed.
