Long Leaf Horse Camp & Trail Updated:04/2023

The longleaf Horse Trail is a multipurpose trail (hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and horse wagons) that winds through a longleaf pine ecosystem.  It has  three trail loops, totaling 21 miles of trail for riders to explore. Each loop is marked with a different trail color to allow for easy trail identification and travel.  

Parking, picnicking, camping and fishing are available at the trailhead.  All 12 campsites have picnic tables, fire-rings, and a hitching post.  There is no potable water available.  The Gator Pond can be used to water horses but no horses are allowed on the pond dam.

A WMA permit and fishing license are required to fish at the pond located at the trailhead.

Directions

From Laurel, take state HWY 15 south; go 8 miles to George Boutwell Road. Turn left and go 5 miles to Forest Service Road 201. Turn right and travel 5 miles to Forest Service Road 213. Turn right and go a 1/2 mile to the trailhead.

From Hattiesburg, take HWY 42 East. Travel east for 22 miles to the city of RIchton. Turn left (north) on to HWY 15 and go 10 miles to Forest Service Road 202 and go 3 miles to Forest Service Road 218. Turn left and go 5 miles to the trail head on the left.
