In 1983, Floyd Sulser, Sr. and Bill Dearman founded Southern Lumber Company, Inc. As two seasoned Mississippi entrepreneurs with nearly 80 years of combined lumber experience between them, they shared one ambitious goal: To create one of the most efficient lumber operations in the Southeast. To that end, they bought a number of properties, including a sawmill in Hermanville, Mississippi.

Today, Southern Lumber remains one of the few independent lumber manufacturers in the state. In addition to the Hermanville complex, we have a main sales office in Jackson, Mississippi, as well as log yards in Crosby, Mississippi and Clinton, Louisiana. In the decades since Bill Dearman and Floyd Sulser first stepped into the Hermanville mill, the company has continued to grow and prosper. And with a tradition of excellence behind them, the Dearman and Sulser families still take an active role in the day-to-day operations of the company, while keeping an eye on the decades to come.
