Gruchy’s primary focus involves assisting in a large effort to restore and protect bottomland hardwood forests in the Lower Mississippi River Alluvial Valley. Part of this involves geographic information system (GIS) and mapping systems to identify priority areas and landowners where restoration efforts will be the most beneficial. Another major element of this project involves the development of a Decision Support Tool that will assist private landowners in making land-management decisions. The goal is to provide comparative cost-benefit analysis between their current land usage and other alternatives that might include conservation programs, conservation easements or any other changes in land use.
His other duties include: assisting with implementation of Wildlife Mississippi’s field operations; assisting with developing and writing field project grants; providing technical assistance to the public and to Wildlife Mississippi’s members as needed; and coordinating hunting lease operations for Wildlife Mississippi.
